  • Connie’s leadership on the Education Finance Committee earned her a Legislator of the Year Award. She also received a Leadership Award from the Fridley Teachers Association for her volunteer work.
  • Connie grew up in our community attending our local public schools, as did her children who are now in college.
  • As a volunteer, Connie formed Save Our Schools – S.O.S. – when our local schools faced a budget crisis that threatened the quality of our schools. She brought together a nonpartisan group of parents, teachers, students and senior citizens who fought for – and won – critical funding for our schools.

She brought together a tri-partisan group of Democrats, Independents and Republicans to pass clean water funding that helped restore Springbrook Nature Center Wetlands – the first urban wetland restoration of its kind in America. Working tirelessly together in 2014, Connie’s bill passed to secure $5,000,000 to enhance and restore Springbrook Nature Center.

… values public service and runs a positive, energetic campaign. Connie’s mentor was US Senator Paul Wellstone. Connie learned how to run her campaign the Wellstone Way. Connie brings people together at the grassroots level to make a positive difference for the community and state. With incredible grassroots support from the community, Connie was elected to the Minnesota House of Representative in 2001 and served over a three term period. In her first election Connie won the DFL endorsement on a first ballot in a three way race which included a high profile mayor. She then won a primary with a landslide in highly contested race between a high profile community member. Connie then went on to win the general election with a decisive majority vote by community members in a high profile three way race. Connie is in another high profile race.

… a champion for our seniors. Connie earned special recognition from the Minnesota Senior Federation for her work on property tax reform, health care, and affordable housing. Connie worked to help pass funding for local veteran representatives to attend the dedication of the WWII Memorial in Washington D.C.

… an example of honest public service who enjoys connecting with and helping constituents and the community. Serving six terms, Connie has served on the Education Finance, Higher Education Policy and Finance, Career Readiness, Transportation Policy – Ranking Democrat Transportation Finance – Vice Chair, Elections, Tax, Sales Tax Division, Local Government and Metropolitan Affairs, Metropolitan Governance, Rules and Administration, State Government Finance and Veterans Affairs committees. Connie works together with Democrats and Republicans on important issues for our community. She was a founding member of the bi-partisan Mental Health, Suburban Transportation, and Early Childhood Education legislative working groups. She serves on the Legislative Audit Commission and the Governors’ Connected and Automated Vehicle Advisory Committee.
